These notes ©2016, Andrew Carnie. Taught by Iliana Bozhanova at an August 23, 2016 Workshop in Tucson Arizona.  This is a Vlach dance from the village of Gamzovo in North West Bulgaria. Steve Kotansky and Marty Koenig have also taught dances under this name.

Music: liana and Todor Yankov (2016) Sharenia. IBTY15

Meter: 2/4
Formation: Open circle. Hands down in V position, Leads to the R
Introduction: Slow melody and 8 bars of fast melody, no action

Part 1

Bar 1: On the right diagonal run R (1), L (2) into the center
Bar 2: On the right diagonal run R (1), L (&), R (2) in the center
Bar 3: Backing out on the right diagonal step L (1), R (2)
Bar 4: Backing out on the right diagonal step L (1), R (&), L (2)
Bars 5-8: Repeat bars 1-4
Bars 9-16: Repeat bars 1-8 (do the in and out motion a total of 4 times)

Part 2

Bars 1-2: Repeat bars 1-2 of Part 1
Bar 3: Stepping directly back step L (1), R (2)
Bar 4: Step on L back (1), Circle R out in front and to the R (2)
Bar 5: Continue circle of R foot around back towards L ankle (1), Stamp R next to L (2)
Bars 6-15: repeat bars 1-5, two more times (do the sequence a total of 3 times)

Part 3

Bars 1-3: Repeat bars 1-3 of Part 2
Bar 4: Step on L in place, with a knee bend (1), Step on flat of R foot slightly in front of L (&), Step on L in place with a bent knee (2) Step on flat of R to R side (&)
Bar 5: Step on L in place, with a knee bend (1), Step on flat of R foot slightly in front of L (&), Step on L in place, lifting R up (2) pause (&)
Bars 6-15: Repeat bars 1-5, two more times (do the sequence a total of 3 times)

The dance can be simplified for less experienced dancers or for dancers with physical challenges by replacing bars 4-5 with the following:
Bar 4a: Step on L in place, with a knee bend (1), touch R toe forward (2),
Bar 5b: Touch R toe to R side (1) Touch R toe forward (2)

Part 4

Bars 1-3: Repeat bars 1-3 of Part 2
Bar 4: Step on L in place (1), Čukče on L and kick R downwards (2)
Bar 5: Repeat bar 4 with opposite footwork
Bar 6: Step on L in place (1), stamp R next to L (2)
Bars 7-8: Repeat bars 5-6
Bar 9: Stamp R next to L but with R toe pointing to R (1), Stamp R next to L but with L toe pointing forward, you can bend your L knee here for effect (2)
Bar 10: Repeat bar 9
Bar 11: Step on R in place (1), Stamp L heel next to R (&), Step on L in place (2), stamp R heel next to L (&)
Bar 12: Step on R in place (1), Stamp L heel next to R (&), step on L in place (3), pause (4)
Bars 13-24: repeat bars 1-12
Bars 25-36: repeat bars 1-12 (the sequence is done a total of 3 times)

If you simplified part 3, you could also leave part 4 off.
