Anstetter (Austria)

(Austria)


These notes ©2016, Andrew Carnie and Bill Faust (Bill's original notes are attached below and are included with permission. I've corrected them in these notes so that the description matches what was done in the video). Bill learned the dance from Frank Wailand in (1963) while he was an architecture student at the University of Arizona.

Meter: 3/4
Formation: Start as couples facing LOD

Introduction (Eingang):

Holding nearer hands, W hold end of apron with R hand, and M hold's L hand in trager (suspenders)

Bar 1: Step on M's L to L, W's R to R (1), swing other foot in front of foot that stepped (2,3)
Bar 2: Repeat bar 3 with opposite footwork
Bar 3: Drop hands and turn away from partner, M turns 1/2 way CCW to face center, stepping L (1), and closing R, no weight (2,3). W begins her twirling, which continues through the plattl. She turns CW, while progressing CCW around the M, Stepping on each beat. She spins this way right through the plattl figure.
Bar 4: hold (1), clap hands (2),clap again (3)

Plattl (Men only)

Bar 1: With hands up next to shoulders (this is the resting position for hands) Stomp R (1), L (&), R (2) L (&), R (3) in place. Pause (&)
Bar 2: Raise L thigh and hit with L hand (1), Jump onto L, raise R and hit with R hand (2), jump on R kicking L heel back behind, and hit L heel with R hand (3)
Bar 3: Hop on R, R hand hit outside of R thigh (1), Hit L thigh (up) with L hands (&), Hop on R, R hand hits heel of L foot in front (2) Hit L thigh with L hand (&) Hit R thigh with R hand while leaping onto L foot in place (3)
Bar 4:  Hop on L, Hit L thigh with L hand, swinging R hand up high towards the back (1), Hop on L foot again, swinging R hand down to hit R heel (2), Leap onto R foot, kicking L behind R, and hit L heel with R hand (3)
Bar 5:  repeat bar 3
Bar 6: Hop on L, hit raised R thigh with R hand again  (1) L hand crosses over and hits R thigh (&), Hop on L,  R hand crosses over and hits R instep (2), L hand hits L thigh (&), Jump onto R, and hit L heel behind R, with R hand (3)
Bars 7-8: repeat bars 3-4
Bars 9-10: repeat bars 3-4
Bars 11-12: repeat bars 3-4
Bar 13: Hop on R, R hand hit outside of R thigh (1), Hit L thigh (up) with L hands (&), Hop on R, R hand hits heel of L foot in front (2) Hit R thigh with R hand while leaping onto L foot in place (3) Hit L thigh with L hand (&)
Bar 14: hop on L, Hit R thigh with R hand (1), hit L thigh with L hand (&), hop on L and hit R heel behind with R hand (2), Hit L thigh with L hand (&), Hop and hit R heel behind again with R hand (3), hit L thigh with L hand
Bar 15: Leap onto R foot, kicking L behind and striking L heel with R hand (1), kick L forward and hit L thigh with L hand (2), Leap onto L kicking R up very high, hitting inside of R foot with R hand (3)
Bar 16: Lower R foot to ground, no weight (1), clap hands (2), clap again (3)
Bars 17-32: repeat bars 1-32

Chase:

Bar 1-8: Men rotate CW around the inside of the circle with thumbs in trager. Women continue to spin CCW, the men should time this so that they end up coming up behind their partner then she rolls into his arms and...
Bars 9-22:  They continue her CW turning (moving in LOD) together in ballroom position (M's L and W's right is held low), using a Ländler step (waltz)
Bar 23-24: W turns under man's L to continue her spins. M turns to face center, and then repeat bar 4 of the Eingang

Plattl #2:

repeat bars 1-32 of the Plattl as described above. Women continue to spin around the outside, turning CW, but moving in LOD (CCW).

Chase #2 and Ending:

repeat bars 1-22 of the chase
Bars 23-24: retaining both hand, W turns 1/2 CW under man's L. Keep W's L and M's right low in the small of her back.  Man kneels on R knee.  Pose.
