These notes ©2017, Andrew Carnie. Originally taught by Yves Moreau, who learned it in 1970 from a village group from Sapareva Banja. The styling of the dance is slow and heavy and was done primarily by older people. It should should have the styling of an older person. Starčeska means "Elderly". Formation: Open circle, hands in belt hold, L over R. Leads to the Right.
Introduction: 8 bars no action.
Part 1
Bar 1: Step on R to R (QQ), Step on L over R, with a deep knee bend (S)Bar 2: Step on R to R (QQ), Step on L behind R (S)
Bar 3: Step on R slightly to R (Q), Step L forward into the center (Q), Step on R back in place (S)
Bar 4: Repeat bar 3 with opposite footwork
Bar 5: Touch R toe to the R (QQ), Cross R over L, with a deep knee bend (S)
Bar 6: Step on L to L (QQ), Step on R behind L (S)
Bars 7-8: Repeat bars 5-6, with opposite footwork and direction.
Bars 9-10: Repeat bars 3-4
repeat until the leader calls a change.
Part 2
Bar 1: Touch R toe to the R (QQ), Cross R over L, with a deep knee bend, moving into the center (S)Bar 2: Repeat bar 1, with opposite footwork
Bars 3-4: Repeat bars 1-2
Bars 5-8: Repeat bars 1-4, except backing up away from the center. (Stepping foot crosses behind)
