Reit Im WinklGermany
These notes ©2016, Andrew Carnie. Originally introduced in the US by Morry Gelman. The dance is named after the town of Reit im Winkl in Bavaria. The tune is the same as that used for Wachentanz Shuhplattler. The notes given here differ significantly from those provided by Gelman. This is the version we know from Bill and Karen Faust.

Meter: 4/4 and 3/4
Formation: Couples in a circle facing CCW. M on the inside. M's hands in "surrender" position. W's hands on hips or holding apron.
Introduction: 8 counts, start with main melody.
Part 1 (4/4) March
WomenBars 1-8: advancing in LOD and staying roughly in line with partner, dance little 123s (R (1), L (&), R (2); L (1), R (&), L (2), etc), two 123s per bar
Men
Bar 1: Moving slowly forward in LOD throughout this step. Leap on R forward, kicking L foot behind, Hit L foot with R hand (1), hit L thigh with L hand (ah), hop on R, Hit L foot with R hand (2). Hit L thigh with L hand (&) Step forward onto L foot, hit R thigh with R hand (3) Hit L thigh with L hand (&) Hop on L, bring R up behind, hit R foot with R hand behind (4) Hit L thigh with L hand (&)
Bar 2: Repeat bar 1
Bar 3: Step forward on R, kick L behind, hit L heel with R hand behind (1). Hit L thigh with L hand (&), Step forward on L, lift R in front, hit R foot with R hand in front (2), Hit L thigh with L hand (&) Step forward on R, kick L behind, hit L heel with R hand behind (3), Hit L thigh with L hand (&). Part (2/4). Polka
Bars 1-8: Get in ballroom position, and take 16 polka steps (2 per bar), turning CW, but progressing CCW around the room. At the end spin woman out under M's L armTransition to Plattl (Eingang)
Holding nearer hands, W hold end of apron with R hand, and M hold's L hand in trager (suspenders)Bar 1: Step on M's L to L, W's R to R (1), swing other foot in front of foot that stepped (2,3)
Bar 2: Repeat bar 3 with opposite footwork
Bar 3: Drop hands and turn away from partner, Man turns to face CW, stepping on L (1), and closing R, no weight (2,3). W begins her twirling, which continues through the plattl. She turns CW, while progressing CCW around the M, Stepping on each beat. She spins this way right through the plattl figure.
Bar 4: W spin, while M pauses with hands in air
Part 3: Plattl # 1 (3/4)
Women: keep spinning throughout this figure.Men:
Bar 1: Stomp forward on R (1) Lift L knee and hit L thigh with L hand (2), Step on L, hitting R thigh with R hand (3)

Part 4: Chase (3/4):
Bar 1-8: Men rotate CW around the inside of the circle with thumbs in trager. Women continue to spin CCW, the men should time this so that they end up coming up behind their partner then she rolls into his arms and...Bars 9-16: They continue her CW turning (moving in LOD) together in ballroom position (M's L and W's right is held low), using a Ländler step (waltz)
Part 5: Plattl #2 (3/4):
repeat the sequence of Plattl # 1
Part 6: Chase #2 and Ending (3/4):
Repeat bars 1-16 of Chase #1Ending: retaining both hand, W turns 1/2 CW under man's L. Keep W's L and M's right low in the small of her back. Man kneels on R knee. Pose.
