Stari Šotiš (Slovenia)

These notes ©2016, Andrew Carnie. Originally taught to the International Folk Dance community by Dick Crum who learned it from Mr and Mrs Peter Kurnick in San Francisco in 1958. The dance is done to the same tune as the Swiss dance Drei Lederne Strumpf.  The translation of the dance is "Old Shottis"

Formation: Couples, start facing each other not holding hands.
Introduction: None

Part 1:

Bar 1: W makes a complete CW turn in place, stepping R (1), hop (&), L (2), hop (&). M makes a complete CCW in place stepping L (1), hop (&), R (2), hop (&)
Bar 2: Facing partner. M stomps L (1), R (&), L (2) in place. W stomps R (1), L (&),  R  (2)
Bar 3: Standing with weight on both feet, clap hands behind back (1), Clap hands in front of body (2)  [Alternately clap back (1), front (&), back (2), front (&)]
Bar 4: Clap partner's hands three times (1, &, 2)
Bar 5: Both using the same footwork, do 2 step hops (R, L), exchanging places by passing L shoulders and pulling R shoulder back.
Bar 6: Stomp R (1), L (&), R (2) in place
Bars 7-8: repeat bars 3-4
Bars 9-12: repeat bars 5-8
Bars 13-16: repeat bars 5-8

 Part 2:

Bars 1-16: In Ballroom position, take 16 turning polka steps moving forward in LOD. Can turn CW or CCW.
